It is important to get an Electricity Safety Check in the following situations:
  • When you purchase a property
  • If your property is more than 25 years old
  • If it has been more than 5 years since your last check
  • If you are experiencing any irregularity in your home such as tingles or shocks when you make contact with any appliances or taps/showers
  • If you are concerned with any electrical work that has been completed in the past
  • If you are unsure whether  your property’s electrical installation is compliant to current electrical wiring and safety standards.
Electrical compliance means that:
  • Your electrical installation is completed to the current Australian Wiring Rules.
  • Your electrical installation is fitted with the appropriate safety devices such as RCBOs (safety switches) and hard wired smoke alarms which have been proven to save lives.
  • Your electrical installation is fitted with the required earthing and bonding system which can save your life.
Your electrical system is compliant if:
  • It follows the latest wiring rules standard – AS/NZS 3000 2018.
  • If your property is less than 10 years old. If your property is more than 10 years old there is a high probability that its electrical installation may fail to meet specific compliance standards which are vital to the safety of your property and its occupants.
  • It was installed after 2018. Any work completed before 2018 may not comply with the current standard.
